摘要(Abstract): Solid mechanics is a classical engineering science that study the deformation and motion of continuous solid media under applied external loadings. Straintronics is a new research field that applies solid mechanics in condensed matter physics. By applying strain/strain in solids, the physical properties including band structure, electronic, and optical properties, can be efficiently engineered, providing new opportunities to develop novel micro- and nano-electronic and photonic devices with enhanced performance. In this talk, I will introduce the fundamentals of straintronics for micro- and nano-electronic and photonic devices. In addition, I will present some of our recent works on the application of straintronics in silicon (group-IV) photonics.
主講人簡介(Biography): Dr. Chang received the B.S. degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, in 2003 and the Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Applied Mechanics, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 2010. In 2011, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Chung Cheng University, Chiayi, Taiwan, where he is currently a full Professor. He was a visiting scholar at University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign from 2007 to 2009, University of Southampton, UK, in 2018, and Nanyang Technological university, Singapore, in 2018 and 2019. He was a recipient of the Excellent Young Innovator Award from the Taiwan Comprehensive University System in 2014 and 2015, the Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award, the Outstanding Young Mechanical Faculty Award in 2015, the Outstanding Mechanical Professor Award in 2018 from the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers, the IEEE Tainan Section Best Young Professional Member Award in 2018, National Innovation Award in 2019, CCU outstanding research award in 2019, and MOST Young Scholar Fellowship in 2019. His current research interests include straintronics, silicon photonics, and optical biosensors.
