講題：Design Considerations of Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge

摘要：
Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge ("HZMB"), being situated in the waters of Lingdingyang (伶仃洋) of the Pearl River Estuary, is a mega sea-crossing infrastructure project. It consists of a series of bridge, sub-sea tunnel, viaducts and artificial islands connecting the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (香港特別行政區), Zhuhai City of Guangdong Province (廣東省珠海市), and the Macao Special Administrative Region (澳 門特別行政區), three major cities situated on the Pearl River Delta of China. The total length of HZMB is approximately 42 km long, connecting the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities to the boundary crossing facilities for Mainland China and Macao, through a 29.6 km long bridge, a 6.7 km long sub-sea tunnel and a 12 km long Hong Kong Link Road. Although it is generally considered as a civil engineering project, many design considerations are in fact multi-disciplinary, ranging from governmental politics, immigration control, financial management, contract management, transportation, traffic management, bridge engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering, river sedimentation, green measures of construction, protection of navigation channels, protection of flight channels, protection of environmentally sensitive areas, measures to preserve the Chinese While Dolphin habitats etc. These non-technical design considerations are equally, if not more, important than the technical design considerations. The important non-technical and technical considerations will be presented in this seminar to broaden the understanding of the audience in the practical planning and design considerations of mega projects. It also demonstrates the importance of non-technical considerations in the successful execution of the project.
