Abstract:
Machines with passive or active compliance are suitable for applications whose main objective is accurate and stable force interaction with a human or environment. This talk presents the review of force regulation research and introduces important research results of using passive and active compliance.

Chao-Chieh Lan (M’09–SM’15) received the B.S. degree from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., in 2000, and the Ph.D. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA, in 2006, both in mechanical engineering.
He is currently a Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National
Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan. His current research interests include compliant actuators, robotics, multibody dynamics, and rehabilitation devices.
